Author Notes

This recipe originally came as a Valentine present circa 1985 from my sister who had taken a trip to Old Sturbridge Village, Massachusetts, and sent me this "Hot from the Oven - Old Fashioned Baking Recipes" from the bake House of Old Sturbridge Village. I have since changed the recipe to make a great cookie even better. I have a neighbor who requests a batch of these cookies every year for her birthday because they are so good. And because the dates are ground, no one ever guesses that "they" are the secret ingredient that makes these cookies so chewy and carmely.
